Rose Ortega:Assistant Director/Co-Founder
Like my husband, I am a native El Pasoan and lifelong resident, I’m also the mother, nurse, psycho analyst, and resident pillow to our two children, dog Sayan and our cat when she feels inclined to grace me with her presence.
I have a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science/ Business Administration, but I’ve worked as an Office Administrator in one capacity or another for almost 20 years, ranging from process services, a local Real Estate company and now a local building contractor.
My taste in Music and Hobbies are pretty wide and varied, I enjoy reading, shopping (to an extent, but Wal-Mart can drive a good woman bad, any day of the week.) My husband and I both love watching the History Channel, Discovery, Sci-FI Channel (Ghost Hunters for me) and A&E. I have a passion for great Jazz music, but with a few exceptions I’ll listen to anything. Then there are movies, I love a good romantic comedy or drama, but my favorite movie of all time is Grease. It’s the one movie I can watch over and over and over…well you get the picture. I also love a good scary movie! Like Ray I also have an avid interest in History. When I was younger El Paso seemed drab and unexciting. But as grew I older and presumably wiser, I’ve realized we have a very rich history and I’m eager to learn more.
Growing up I heard my mom and dad talk about a lot of strange things they’d seen or heard about when they were growing up and of course it sparked my interest in the paranormal phenomena. Although I can’t recall anything really strange ever happening to me when I was younger.
After I gave birth to my daughter however, I can no longer say that. The first experience began with the appearance of a dark shadow floating around my mother’s house, the second occurring when our daughter had just turned 2 years-old. She began having “regular visits” from her unseen friend.
At first I thought it was simply her imagination, until she described in detail what he looked like and the he was wearing a grey suit and a fedora. She said it was funny looking hat, so we showed her a variety of hats we had in the house and she replied that it looked like none of those, it looked kind of funny. So we showed her photos in a catalog, where she immediately picked out the fedora. I felt a chill and realized there might be something more to what she was experiencing. However, since she seemed to enjoy these visits and I didn’t want to alarm her, I let it rest. A few days after her 4th birthday, the visits stopped. When we asked her about her friend, she would just shrug. As she got older she simply forgot the whole experience. I had thought that would be the last we would ever hear about our visitor in the grey suit, until my son was born. Like his sister before him, the visits began when he turned 2 and ended when he was 4. He had also given the exact same description his sister had given him.
That was the straw that broke the monkey’s back as they say and I knew then I not only wanted, but needed answers. Since then my husband and I have been researching what we could about the area my mother lives in and about paranormal research in general.
