Although ghost's hitching a ride back with you is rare, it's nice to have a simple prayer of protection to let them know that their place is not back at home with you. For all you know, you already have more ghosts than you can handle back home... For the purposes of this site, I try to refrain from getting into the topic of religion, as among other notable topics it can get pretty dicey, so the inclusion of this prayer or other prayers is only meant as a suggestion, and not an attempt to force our religious beliefs on anyone or anyone else’s belief’s, for that matter. However; spirituality and the power of faith, in whatever form that takes for you is certainly open for discussion on this site. Anyway with that said, it's been our experience before you get your hunt or investigation underway it might be a good idea to say a prayer of protection before and after your investigation. While it's not often, but it is possible a spirit may decide to tag along with after you’re done. I’m sure you wouldn't give a ride to someone you knew absolutely nothing about or would you? Think of it like meeting someone online for the first time, you wouldn’t; if ever, give them any personal information or invite them to your home right? Given all that’s going on in the world, we hope you wouldn’t. You just never know who you’re meeting, so it’s important to set boundaries and state them clearly, it’s for your own safety and the safety of those around you. That’s what a prayer of protection is; it’s stating a set of boundaries. I know some of you are thinking, but I'm not even sure ghosts are real! So should I still say a prayer? Yes even if you're a skeptic. As an investigator or researcher it's essential to have an open mind and having an open mind requires that you consider every possibility and we do mean every possibility. Much like a detective, he needs to evaluate every possibility, every witness, and every piece of evidence; whether it's physical or circumstantial. You have to consider and eliminate if possible, the obvious, and then consider the not so obvious or absurd. Basically investigation and research of any type, is a process of elimination. But what if you're an atheist? Well, ask your self this question, how does it hurt me? It won't and if you do this long enough, you'll find it was well worth the couple of seconds it took to say it. Anyway I'm moving a little off topic here, but don't you think considering you're hunting for ghosts, it's better to err on the side of caution? What if they are real, are you sure you want one freeloading off you at home? It's not like you could send them off to work or school. Besides I’ve yet to find a ghost who will do windows, but if you find one let me know. Remember a prayer should be said before and after you're investigation. Opening Prayer Saint Michael the Archangel, Defend us in battle Closing Prayer "In the name of Jesus Christ, I command all human spirits to be bound to (please note: the closing prayer can be modified to fit where you're at, obviously not all you investigations will take place at a cemetery) Although most of the E.A.R.P. Team members are Catholic, I offer these prayers only as a suggestion and because they are prayers we use every time we go out on the field and have found they've worked well for us. So it is my sincerest hope we haven't offended anyone by placing it here. For anyone who might have a more spiritually diverse group, please be mindful and respectful of their belief systems and try to include their own prayers of protection. By the way if your are Wiccan or follow another non-Christian faith, and are active in the field you are more than welcome to send us your own prayers of protection, so we can share them with everyone here. If you have other techniques of protection please feel free to share those as well. UPDATE 8-03-09 : Perla will be updating this section with some other prayers you might find useful. So be sure to check back soon.
