Capturing EVPs
If you read our previous two discussions on EVPs, you no know a little about what they are and a little bit of history surrounding the phenomenon. Now I’m going to give you some insight on how EVPs are generally classified and how to go about capturing some on your own.
- Recording EVPS isn’t rocket science, but there are several good ways to record.
- Pick a location, lay down your recording device, with microphone extended ( if you are using an external mic); ask a few questions then leave the room for about 20 -30 minutes.
- Set the record down and stay in the room to ask questions, remember to pause for about 30 seconds in between each question.
- Walk around you selected location, while pausing every so often to ask a question and then move on to the next area.
Make sure you’ve taken the time to say your protection prayer and that you’ve let the spirit know what you are doing. Be sure state the date, time, location and weather conditions at the beginning of your recording. Also be sure you’re making note of any ambient noise, such as nearby traffic, humming from electrical appliances, dogs barking, etc. This will do away with any confusion as to what you’re hearing.
Here are a few more tips I think might be useful: - If you’re using a tape recorder, instead of a digital one, do not record over tapes and use the best brand you can afford. Before I switched over to a digital recorder I found that Maxell, Memorex and Sony Tapes worked really well and reasonably priced.
- On Tape machines, it’s best to use an external mic. Sometimes the internal mic will pic up the whirring of the spindles and gears from inside the recorder. If there’s a sensitivity adjustment for the mic on your recorder, set it to the highest level. You want EVPs to be as clear as possible.
- Do not whisper during your recording sessions, speak up and in a normal tone, this eliminates confusion when it’s time to review your recording.
- If you have a voice activated type recorder, be sure to enable that function as well. You will have less audio to review.
- Keep a positive attitude, ask pointed questions and in such a manner that you know someone is there. It’s a good idea to not ask questions like “is anyone there?” Instead ask questions like what’s your name? How can I help you? Are you male or female? How old are you…etc. I think you get the idea. Don’t be afraid to ask more personal questions, so long as you remember to be respectful and ask the spirits that they talk loudly or shout if possible, so you can understand what they’re saying.
- Remember not to show fear; a polite ghost won’t make itself known if it knows you’re afraid, a not so friendly ghost will exploit it.
- When your session is over, remember to thank them for speaking with you, show your gratitude and mean it. Manners are appreciated even in the afterlife.
I know this might sound like a broken record, but after your investigation is done, don’t forget to say your prayer of protection before you leave the location. You don’t want any stowaways going back home with you. Copyright 2008-2009. Allrights Reserved. The El Paso Alternate Reality Project.
